Commonwealth Now Supports EVM Chains

We are excited to announce that Commonwealth has built out generic support for the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), allowing the long tail of EVM-based chains to onboard themselves to our platform.

EVM Chains: Operating Structures for Projects

The EVM functions as the execution environment for code for many blockchains. As a shared environment where hundreds of smart contract projects can exist interoperably, it is integral to many of the biggest cryptocurrency projects. Directly stemming from Ethereum’s EVM, any code written for Ethereum also works on EVM-based chains, as all run Solidity Smart Contracts.

The EVM maintains consensus across many nodes of a blockchain and isolates the execution of code. While Ethereum is capable of continuous, uninterrupted, and immutable operations, the EVM defines the rules for computing new valid states from block to block. Its streamlined functionality has drawn numerous projects—including Arbitrum, Polygon, and Moonbeam—to adopt it as their virtual machine.

Commonwealth: Growing Decentralized Communities

Commonwealth is the crypto-native, all-in-one community and governance tool used by many of the top DeFi projects to discuss, vote on, and fund their initiatives. Our platform combines the DAO use cases of Telegram, Discourse, and Snapshot in one place with additional functionality. This means Commonwealth offers a solution for DeFi projects seeking one platform to run their decentralized governance, community discussions, treasury management, and more.

The forums for EVM chains will be built custom for their ecosystems and include the following capabilities:

  • Crypto-Native Token Forum: EVM chains using Commonwealth will come with full forum capabilities including threaded discussions, upvotes, user profiles, and more.
  • Snapshot Integration: As part of the seamless governance experience that Commonwealth offers, EVM chains can have full integration with Snapshot. By joining Commonwealth, the community can move from discussion post to proposal with complete transparency along the way. This enables their community to consider the entire discussion leading up to the Snapshot proposal when deciding on their vote.

Create a Token Forum for any EVM Chain Now

Any ERC20 Token on an EVM chain can now make a forum on Commonwealth. Forums can be created at https://commonwealth.im. For help with this process, check out our Guide on Creating a Forum here. If further support is needed, message Rhys on Telegram @RhysFH or rhys@commonwealth.im.
